Oracle Database 11g and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 - Statement of Direction  November 11th, 2008
Oracle has recently updated the Statement of Direction for support of Windows Server 2008.  Database 10gR2 is currently supported on most editions of  Windows Server 2008 - and this is expected to be extended to Database 11g first quarter 2009.

This years Oracle OpenWorld 2008 was a great success, especially for .NET developers who had their own Oracle Develop .NET track.  Oracle Develop also helped .NET developers to learn about the latest Oracle and .NET features and network with other developers.  Slides and sample code from these events are now available for download.


Oracle Develop (at OpenWorld 2008) - .NET agenda now available  September 4th, 2008

Oracle Develop is an extended set of technical sessions for developers that will run alongside Oracle Open World 2008.  The developer sessions will take place at the Marriott, San Francisco, September 21-23rd and include topics for .NET programmers.  Attendees wil learn how to create a basic .NET Web application for Oracle using Microsoft Visual Studio, use Visual Studio wizards and designers to create database schema objects and auto-generate .NET code, create a .NET stored procedure in Oracle Database, debug PL/SQL in Visual Studio, leverage database change notification with .NET callbacks and learn tips and techniques to optimize application performance in .NET.  We will be posting material on O-Zone as it becomes available for those unable to attend.

Real Application Testing now supports past releases  September 4th, 2008

In response to growing customer demand, Oracle Real Application Testing now supports all releases of Oracle Database 10g and Oracle9i Database Release 2.  Real Application Testing is an Enterprise Edition option that allows you to take a snapshot of the production environment for 'real-life' testing purposes.  This is particularly valuable for migration projects and the availability of this option for users of earlier database editions will help manage the transition to Oracle Database 11g. 

Oracle Application Express Patch Release and Statement of Direction  September 4th, 2008

The Oracle Application Express 3.1.2.00.02 patch set can be applied to Oracle Application Express release 3.1.0.00.32 or Oracle Application Express release 3.1.1.00.09.  Oracle9i release 2 (9.2.0.3) and higher supports this patch set.  Patch sets provide bug fixes only; they do not include new functionality.  To download APEX, please click here...

The latest Statement of Direction provides detail about version 3.2 and 4.0.  APEX 3.2 will capture the design of existing Oracle Forms and automatically translate some (but not all) components.  Oracle Application Express 4.0 will focus on declarative support for Web 2.0 features as well as the extensibility of the Application Express framework.

Oracle Database 11g on Windows new World Record  July 8th, 2008

Oracle has announced a new world record TPC-C benchmark for Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One running on Windows. With this result, Oracle now holds the top three record benchmark positions in the Top Ten TPC-C price/performance category.  Achieving 97,083 transactions per minute with a price/performance of $.68/tpmC, Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One running on a Windows-based Dell PowerEdge 2900 server with one Intel Quad-Core Xeon 2.66 GHz processor, delivered the best price-per-transaction- per-minute ever achieved with the TPC-C benchmark. Oracle continues to lead in the TPC-C Price/Performance category with the top results on Windows and Linux.
 
Oracle SQL Developer - updated Statement of Direction  July 2nd, 2008

Oracle has released an updated Statement of Direction for SQL Developer, downloads of which passed the 1 million mark in May, 2008. The next release of Oracle SQL Developer provides complete graphical, logical and physical data modeling delivered as an optional extension to SQL Developer. Customers who do not select the data modeling option will be able to continue to use the base SQL Developer product. The base product will continue to benefit from further updates, which will include unit testing and improved database support.

 Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Beta

With Service Pack 1, Visual Studio 2008 introduces a large assortment of new features for targeting Windows, Office and the Web.  Developers building .NET applications will enjoy improved performance in the WPF designer, new components for Visual Basic and Visual C++ as well as an MFC-based Office 2007 Ribbon. Web developers will see continued improvement in the client-side script tooling including JavaScript IntelliSense.  Full support for SQL Server 2008, the ADO.NET Entity Framework and performance improvements for the IDE are also included.

The .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 delivers more controls, a streamlined setup, improved start-up performance and powerful new graphics features for client development and rich data scaffolding, improved AJAX support and other improvements for Web development.  Additionally, it introduces the ADO.NET Entity Framework and ADO.NET Data Services, which simplify data access code in applications by providing an extensible, conceptual model for data from any data source and enabling this model to closely reflect business requirements.

The Critical Patch Update for April 2008 was released on April 15, 2008. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible. Oracle has announced a Statement of Direction that provides a road map for Oracle Database running on Microsoft Windows Server 2008.  The latest 2008 edition of Microsoft Windows Server was released in February.
